Continuing with our coverage of artists that will be performing at this year's Canadian Music Week. We had a quick chat with Archie Powell & The Exports.
Hammer Records: Tell us what you think of when you think Canadian music?
Archie: I always wishfully hope that everyone sounds like Sex Bob-omb but I realize that Scott Pilgrim is a fictional character and the set of musicians in Canada is no more inclined to any particular style or aesthetic than the American one is. You're just a bit more polite about it.
Hammer Records: How did you get involved in Canadian Music Week?
Archie: We did a tour all the way up the Canadian east coast a few years back and really just kept looking for reasons to keep visiting. The music end gives us a great excuse to come bum around Toronto and visit good friends.
Hammer Records: Do you have anything planned for Canadian Music Week?
Archie: We make a regular practice of trying to be the most animated band on the bill. So far attempting to be memorable in the "flail about wildly and shout till you're hoarse" has done us a few favors. Front row should wear ponchos. I'm not at liberty to say why.
Hammer Records: What message do you want to send to Canadians who are listening to your music?
Archie: We came to party. Everyone's invited.
Hammer Records: Whats in the future?
Archie: We should be hunkering down to record our fourth LP this summer before some further touring in the fall, but you can hear our whole discography at http://archiepowell.bandcamp.com.
