It was nice to chat with some Vancouver musicians heading to perform at Canadian Music Week. We had a quick discussion about their upcoming performance.
Hammer Records: Tell us what you think of when you think Canadian Music?
GoodWood Atoms: When we think of Canadian Music, we think of authenticity: being true to your creative voice and following your own inspiration rather than compromising or trying to fit into a mold. We also think of goodwill and camaraderie: Canadian artists sticking together and supporting each other.
Hammer Records: How did you get involved in Canadian Music Week?
GoodWood Atoms: We've always known that Canadian Music Week was the premier opportunity to connect with this country's music scene, both on the business and creative side of things. So it was a no brainier for us apply to showcase at the first opportunity we had. 2016 will be our second year showcasing.
Hammer Records: What do you have planned for Canadian Music Week?
GoodWood Atoms: CMW 2016 will be a big one for us, since it will happen right around the time of our debut album release. We hope to make our showcase really special. It will be the first time we've brought the latest iteration of our live show to an audience outside of our home city of Vancouver. It will hopefully include the lights and visual projections that we have developed to accompany our updated live set.
Hammer Records: What message do you want to send to Canadians listening to your music?
GoodWood Atoms: Our Canadian identity is very important to what we do. Although we don't sing about specifically 'Canadian' topics, we draw inspiration from the landscapes of this country (which figure into our visuals and band image) and are constantly inspired by the positive spirit and faith in humanity of Canadians. It's important to celebrate and support music that comes from Canada because it is a reflection of our shared experience as Canadians--something we should hold dear.
Hammer Records: What do you have coming up?
GoodWood Atoms: Our showcase at CMW 2016 will be part of a larger tour in the month of May, including dates in Montreal, Ottawa and Kingston. In July, our debut full-length The Great White will be released. We are really excited to put this out there, as it will really be our first fully-realized artistic statement as a band. We are very happy to have been able to work with Nygel Asselin on this recrod (who is best known for producing Half Moon Run's Dark Eyes) and we hope it will make a splash with Canadian listeners.
